18.6.4 Permanent magnet holding brake is not suitable for hoist drives

Warning!

For safety reasons, the permanent magnet holding brake selected is not suitable for hoist drives (reduced

braking torque at higher speeds).

Select a motor with a spring-applied brake or ensure that an additional brake assembly provides for the

required safety.

Cause Effects Possible remedies

The braking torque decreases signifi-

cantly at higher motor speeds.

Braking torque is too low in case of

an emergency (mains failure, mal-

function, inverter failure). Safe brak-

ing to standstill is not possible.

• Select a motor with a spring-ap-

plied brake.

• Provide for redundant brake as-

sembly.
